Solution & Analysis - Who Is Taller

Answer: Jim is taller

Analysis

We have to analyse in three ways

   1. Jim and Hari in the same row.

   2. Jim and Hari in the same column

3 . Jim and hari are in differnt row and column.

case 1: If Jim and Hari are in the same column, then Jim is taller than Hari because Jim is the tallest in that column.

case 2 : If they are in the same row, then Hari is shorter than Jim because Hari is the shortest in that row.

case 3 : If Jim and Hari are in different column and row, How to proceed ?

We have to figure out some common point of reference.

Choose a person say Mani who is at the intersection of Jim's row and Hari's column.

Now compare Jim and Mani ,

As we have selected tallest people in each column Jim is taller than Mani, ----- A

          Now compare Mani and Hari

As we have selected shotest people in each row Hari is shorter than Mani

(Means) Mani is taller than Hari.------ B

          Combining A & B

Jim is taller than Mani ; Mani is taller than Hari

         Goes with out saying

             Jim is the tallest.
